Does Valentina support...ODBC? |
|
|
|
|
Valentina solutions are available for accessing data sources
using ODBC and also acting as an ODBC data source. Please read more about
specific operating system support.
- Valentina Studio products include ODBC connectivity. You can use Valentina
Studio to access data sources by way of ODBC. This is supported on Windows
and Mac OS X versions of Valentina Studio.
- Valentina ODBC ADK includes an ODBC driver that allows a local Valentina
database to be accessed as a data source using ODBC. Valentina ODBC ADK is
currently available on Windows. Valentina ODBC ADK for Linux and Mac OS X
are currently under closed beta.
- Valentina server implementations (Valentina Office Server, Valentina Embedded
Server) can be used as data sources using ODBC. This is currently only available
on the Windows platform.
What is ODBC?
This short description is from the Microsoft website:
Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) is Microsoft's strategic interface for accessing
data in a heterogeneous environment of relational and non- relational database
management systems. Based on the Call Level Interface specification of the
SQL Access Group, ODBC provides an open, vendor- neutral way of accessing data
stored in a variety of proprietary personal computer, minicomputer, and mainframe
databases.
ODBC Policy Statement
Because ODBC is primarily championed by Microsoft, ODBC
connectivity on Apple Mac OS X and Linux does not have the same support.
Many database vendors
on
Mac OS X for example, rely on third party licensed ODBC drivers.
Paradigma Software does not believe in relying on third party drivers to provide
this core functionality to its product line. Paradigma Software believes that
not integrating ODBC into a database vendor product strategy is not consistent
with ready for business standards. |
